Hong Kong has emerged victorious at the final of the AT & T Concert Ultimate Frisbee Championship at King's Park.

Hong Kong thrilled the home fans with their second straight title after defeating Singapore 15-8 in the final yesterday.

J. D. Pauls was the leading goalscorer for the SAR with four points as Hong Kong led 8-7 at half-time. Hong Kong and Singapore defeated Taiwan and Shanghai respectively to reach the final.

Eleven teams comprising 180 players took part in the competition.

Competing in the fourth local competition of its kind, Hong Kong showed better defensive play and made the most of their chances to defeat the visitors, who could only score one point in the second half.

Hong Kong's Signal 8 team has taken Asia's Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. With eleven teams from throughout the region vying for supremacy, it was no mean feat.

Saturday, November 4th, saw each of the eleven teams play four matches between 9:00am and 4:00pm. Sunday play began with each team assured to play at least two matches for final placement. By 10:30am the Quarter Final teams had earned their right to participate.

Semi-Finals commenced and the field narrowed with Taipei and reigning champions Hong Kong in strong competition. The score was Taipei 4 - Hong Kong 11, in a match that had to be played to a time limit of 1 hour 30 minutes. Hong Kong's "Signal 8" would go to the finals against the always tough Singapore's "Angmo Freakshow."

The Finals are played to 15 points with no time limit. Make no mistake, despite the fact that there is no physical contact allowed, no referees, and the motto is "The Spirit of the Game" for fair play -- this match was to be a battle.

Signal 8 came out to play some serious ultimate, but Singapore's Angmo Freakshow was not about to lie down. Captain Dennis Hu (AF) showed outstanding handling ability on the offensive throughout the game. Martha Hall (AF), the woman that opposing players love to hate - had the Signal 8 women constantly on the run. Victor Guss (AF) and his spectacular layout in the end-zone are not to be forgotten.

Signal 8 Captain Tom Nunan played heart and soul, throwing and scoring. Steven Ridolfi had a catch for a point that brought the crowd to its feet as he "skyed" to pull down a half pitch huck between two defenders. J.D. Pauls illustrated intense defense with two knock-down blocks, one was a sure score. Marcus Valle made a rare layout catch near the end-zone followed by a quick flick for a score from his knees. There was a Signal 8 storm on the pitch, and it came with warning.
